Our History
In 2013, Ayiti Yoga Co.(AYC) co- founded by Danielle Desulme was a platform for predominantly exposing the yoga practice to the Haitian community. It started with developing a mailing list of participating students and emailing a class schedule on a weekly basis. Weekly classes were taught at various locations like hotels, spas, and residences. With this growing community interest in not just yoga, but in holistic health overall, AYC wanted to continue in sharing and being a resource for the practice. Interested in various holistic teachings of various modalities and making them available to their students.
In 2015, AYC co-organized the first world wide celebration of International Day of Yoga in collaboration with the Honorary Consul to India and The Indian Association by offering a free mass class with approximately 100 persons in attendance. This number doubled in the following year. It was clear that this ancient practice had seeped its way through the city. Shortly after, a growing network of teachers in holistic health and wellness started to emerge and AYC expanded its offerings with a variety of successful events including retreats, events and workshops in and out of Port-au-Prince.
We expanded our reach to the workplace, offering classes to the corporate community . More and more companies were recognising the importance of employee health and wellbeing, and are branching out into new initiatives to increase productivity and decrease absenteeism.
At the end of 2021, Danielle made the hard decision to return to her birth home of Jamaica . Due to Haiti’s political instability, it was best she left her father’s homeland, the country that became her home for almost 10 years. Danielle was instrumental in bringing the awareness of the practice to the country.
